Introduction

"Out of the Shadows Tour 2010 --- 'we see thee rise'", was conceived on 2 October 2008 as a fund raising initiative designed to raise funds and awareness amongst Canada Post employees and Canadians alike. Like thousands of Canadians, our family and friends have been touched by mental illness, so Canada Post employee, Wayne Stremel, family and friends, decided to do something more for the community.

The premise of the planned tour is to cross Canada by bicycle, solicit monetary (per kilometre or otherwise) pledges toward CPC Foundation for Mental Health via internet based on-line communications (and direct contributions); while raising awareness en-route.

Awareness en-route will encompass multiple dimensions:

  1. Visibility of the bicycle tour through professionally designed identity signage applied to an accompanying support vehicle, (which will also contain resource information about the tour and the plight of those Canadians facing mental illness),

  2. Visibility of Tour team members through professionally designed and identified Tour Jerseys,

  3. Employee engagement at the Canada Post facility level through planned visitation as the Tour visits cities and communities en-route (Tour 2010 plans to maintain a 'passport' style ledger to receive office cancellation date stamps at each visit),

  4. internal and external communications via website, and through local, regional, and potentially national media releases, and

  5. 'Fellowship Riders', who include a targeted list of celebrated Canadians who may elect to join the Tour for various segments of the national tour; which in turn will aid media attention.
